Graduate Admissions

The Faculty of Education at UBC offers both a Master of Education (MEd) and a Master of Arts (MA) in Early Childhood Education. These programs are offered through the Centre for Cross Faculty Inquiry (CCFI).

MASTER OF EDUCATION (M.ED)

Requirements

Admission to the M.Ed program requires a Bachelor of Education degree or a four-year undergraduate degree in a related field* plus experience working with young children in an appropriate setting. In addition, students must have attained a B+ average in third and fourth year-level course work or at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A- grade range (at UBC 80% or higher) in the field of education or in a related field.

* Related fields include, but are not limited to, Child and Youth Care, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work and Family Studies. Applicants whose degree is in an unrelated field (e.g., Arts, Commerce, General Studies) may be accepted if they have completed a college or university certificate program in early childhood education or if they have extensive professional experience in early childhood education or a related field.

APPLICATION

In addition to meeting the admissions requirements stated above, all applicants to the Master of Arts or Master of Education in Early Childhood Education must include:

* the application checklist

* online Application for Admission

* two copies of official transcripts (photocopies are not acceptable) — (please refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for detailed instructions)

* three letters of reference (please use the Graduate Student Reference Form)

* a resume

* a one-page statement of career aspirations indicating how much you think this program (along with existing education and experience) can help you achieve them.

* Additional Document Requirements for International Students

Please submitt the application checklist and all the other materials (i.e. transcripts, statement of intent, letters of recommendation, resume) no later than February 1, 2010 at:
